The best Mallorca itinerary with kids: seven days from a finca in the middle

Most family itineraries in Mallorca fall apart because they put too much in. The island is small enough that everything is within an hour of Sencelles, which is exactly why it is tempting to try. This is a seven-day plan with one outing a day, a long lunch, and the afternoons left alone. Drive times are approximate.

Day 1: arrive and do nothing

Check in from 15:00. A swim in the pool, which starts shallow and deepens gradually. The pool is not fenced, so younger children need an adult nearby at all times. Dinner at home: pizza from the wood-fired oven.

Day 2: the village and the market

Santa Maria del Camí has a Sunday market about 10 minutes away: cheese, sobrassada, fruit, bread. Bring a bag for the picnic. Back for the pool and the afternoon.

Day 3: a shallow beach

Alcúdia is about 30 minutes away. The bay is wide and shallow, and a toddler can wade out a long way. Take a picnic, shade and early lunch. Be back for the nap.

Day 4: the vintage train to Sóller

The wooden train from Palma to Sóller runs through the mountains and past orange groves. Children usually treat it as the main event; the town at the end has a tram to the port and an ice cream on every corner.

Day 5: Palma for the morning

About 25 minutes away. The cathedral (La Seu) is worth looking up at, and the old-town lanes are shaded and easy to walk. Lunch early, and head home before the heat peaks.

Day 6: caves or a castle

The Coves del Drach near Porto Cristo is a long underground lake with a concert in a cave, about 50 minutes by car. A younger child may prefer a short walk to Castell d’Alaró, about 25 minutes from the house.

Day 7: a slow morning and a late check-out

Breakfast on the porch. Final swim. Packing without a rush.

Rhythm that works

Pool in the morning, one outing after breakfast, lunch at the long table, rest in the heat of the afternoon, an early dinner. Check-in is 15:00, check-out 10:00, with two cots and two high chairs for babies.
