Almond blossom in Mallorca: when to go and where to see it
When is the almond blossom in Mallorca? Usually from late January to mid-February, depending on the winter. The trees flower white and pale pink before they leaf, and the best displays are in the valleys around Valldemossa and Sóller and in the plain of the Pla de Mallorca. Check the weather: a cold January can push the flowering later.
Where to see it
- The Pla de Mallorca. The flat farmland in the middle of the island is full of almond groves. From the house at Sencelles you can drive or cycle through it in minutes.
- Valldemossa and Sóller. Terraced groves under the Tramuntana, best seen on a walk.
- Son Servera. An almond blossom fair is held on the first Sunday of February on an estate there.
How to plan a blossom weekend
- Go in the first two weeks of February to be safe, and keep your dates flexible.
- Combine a morning walk or ride among the trees with a long lunch.
- Wrap up: daytime temperatures in February are around 8 to 16°C in Palma.
- Add Palma on 2 February to see the cathedral’s Festa de la Llum, when the morning sun makes a figure-eight of light inside.
Staying with us for it
La Casa de los Grandes is in the middle of almond country: flat lanes for cycling, quiet roads and a long table for lunch. It sleeps twelve adults, the minimum stay in February is two nights, and last-minute enquiries are welcome. See the finca or send us your dates.
