A finca wedding weekend, hour by hour

Most couples arrive thinking about one day. The ones who leave happiest planned for three. Here is the shape that works at the house, built from the weddings that have been here.

Thursday

The wedding party arrives in the afternoon: the couple, parents, the people who need to be close. Twelve sleep in the two houses. Keys, a swim, a first look at the porch while the light is doing what it will do on Saturday. Dinner is simple and early.

Friday

Suppliers in from ten: florist, lighting, tables and chairs. The couple keeps out of it. Most take the morning at a cove twenty minutes north and come back for the welcome dinner, which is pizza from the wood-fired oven for everyone who has flown in, outside, with the Binissalem wines open and no speeches yet.

Saturday

  • Morning — hair and make-up in the guest house, breakfast on the porch, the photographer’s quiet hour.
  • Seven — the ceremony in the fruit garden, at golden hour. In May and October it can be earlier; in July and August, seven is the rule.
  • Eight — drinks by the pool while the photographs are taken in the grove.
  • Nine — drinks reception outside for up to 80, with the long table for the seated dinner of the smaller party. Eighty is the limit at all times, including the twelve who stay.
  • Eleven — dancing under the stars. Music until midnight.

Every outdoor plan needs a wet-weather version agreed with your suppliers in advance. Indoors, the house holds about 30.

Sunday

The part nobody plans for and everybody remembers: breakfast with everyone who stayed, barefoot, still half-dressed from the night before. A slow lunch that nobody wants to end. Guests from the hotels nearby drift over through the morning.

Monday

An early swim, check-out at ten, and your suppliers clear what is left.
