# Mallorca in winter: what November to March is really like

Is Mallorca worth visiting in winter? Yes, if you want walking, cycling, long lunches and quiet roads rather than a beach holiday. Daytime temperatures from December to February are typically 10 to 16°C, with 5 to 8°C at night; the sea is 14 to 16°C, so swimming is for the brave. The island is at its calmest, flights and rentals are cheaper, and most restaurants, shops and markets stay open.

## November: the last of the warmth

Daytime temperatures of around 15 to 19°C, with about seven rainy days. The olive harvest is under way, the countryside greens up after the first rains, and the cycling season is in full swing. It is the easiest month to ease into winter: long walks in a shirt, a fire in the evening.

## December: lights and long tables

Highs of around 16°C. Palma is lit for Christmas, the Tramuntana is quiet, and the island is full of families who live here rather than visit. A finca works well for a family Christmas because everyone sits at one table. See [Christmas and New Year in a Mallorca finca](https://lacasadelosgrandes.com/journal/christmas-and-new-year-in-a-mallorca-finca).

## January: the quietest month

Highs of around 15°C. The Three Kings parades run on the night of 5 January; Sant Antoni on 16 and 17 January brings bonfires and animal blessings, especially in Sa Pobla; and Palma celebrates Sant Sebastià around 19 January. The first almond blossom can appear at the end of the month.

## February: almond blossom

Palma averages 8 to 16°C. Almond blossom is at its best from late January to mid-February. Palma’s Carnival is in the middle of the month in some years and in March in others, so check the year. See [almond blossom in Mallorca](https://lacasadelosgrandes.com/journal/almond-blossom-in-mallorca-when-and-where).

## March: spring starts

Highs of 17 to 20°C, with the cycling and walking season at its best before the heat and the crowds. Easter funfairs and fiestas begin, and the pool terrace is back in the sun at lunchtime.

## What to pack and expect

- Layers: mornings and evenings are cool, middays can be warm in the sun.

- A hire car. Sencelles is a village in the middle of the island and public transport is limited.

- Some beach clubs and resort restaurants close until spring; most restaurants and markets stay open. The Santa Maria del Camí market runs on Sundays.

- The house is heated, and guests have written about how comfortable it is in the colder months.

## What a winter stay at the finca looks like

Walk or ride in the morning, a long lunch at the table, an afternoon in the sun on the porch, and dinner indoors. [La Casa de los Grandes](https://lacasadelosgrandes.com/the-finca) sleeps twelve adults in two houses, 25 minutes from Palma and 20 from the airport, and the minimum stay in winter is two nights.
